What is a Sentence?
A sentence is a combination such words which gives us a
complete sense.
Kind / Types of Sentence:
There are three main kinds of Sentences in construction

Simple Sentences: Definition with Examples
It consists of one basic verb and expresses one thought.
Examples:
- Alia goes to the library.
- Iqra bought the cake.
- Ali waited for the bus.
- They play football.
- I will take tea.
- She ate an apple.
- I want to lose my weight.
- I like to read mystery novels.
- He laughed.
- They are sleeping.
Compound Sentences : Definition with Examples
A compound sentence is a sentence that contains two or more
independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction (e.g.For, And, Nor,
But, Or, Yet, So), a semicolon, or a conjunctive adverb (e.g., however,
therefore, moreover)
For Example:
Compound sentence formula is
“FAN BOYS”
For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So
- I read mystery novels for I love suspense.
- Alia goes to the library and reads newspaper.
- I don't like garlic nor do I like onions.
- Aslam waited for the train but the train was late.
- I want to lose my weight yet I eat chocolate daily
- I will eat somosa, or I will eat rice.
- They play football so they live healthy.
- I like rice but my brother likes a qurma.
- I helped him and he was happy.
- He failed two times yet he is not disappointed.
Complex Sentences: Definition with Examples
A complex sentence consists of one main independent / principal
clause and one or more subordinate clauses. It also expresses two or more
thoughts in a sentence to show complete sense.
Examples:
- The teacher returned the homework after she checked
- The boy, who sold the car, is a student.
- The students are studying because they have a test.
- I met the man who had fought me.
- She is wearing a shirt which looks nice.
