What is a Sentence?

A sentence is a combination such words which gives us a complete sense.

Kind / Types  of Sentence:

There are three main kinds of Sentences in construction point of view.

  3. Complex Sentences

Simple Sentences: Definition with Examples

It consists of one basic verb and expresses one thought.

Examples:

  1. Alia goes to the library.
  2. Iqra bought the cake.
  3. Ali waited for the bus.
  4. They play football.
  5. I will take tea.
  6. She ate an apple.
  7. I want to lose my weight.
  8. I like to read mystery novels.
  9. He laughed.
  10. They are sleeping.

Compound Sentences: Definition with Examples

A compound sentence is a sentence that contains two or more independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction (e.g.For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So), a semicolon, or a conjunctive adverb (e.g., however, therefore, moreover)

For Example:

Compound sentence formula is

“FAN BOYS”

For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So

  1. I read mystery novels for I love suspense.
  2. Alia goes to the library and reads newspaper.
  3. I don't like garlic nor do I like onions.
  4. Aslam waited for the train but the train was late.
  5. I want to lose my weight yet I eat chocolate daily
  6. I will eat somosa, or I will eat rice.
  7. They play football so they live healthy.
  8. I like rice but my brother likes a qurma.
  9. I helped him and he was happy.
  10. He failed two times yet he is not disappointed.

Complex Sentences: Definition with Examples

A complex sentence consists of one main independent / principal clause and one or more subordinate clauses. It also expresses two or more thoughts in a sentence to show complete sense.

Examples:

  1. The teacher returned the homework after she checked
  2. The boy, who sold the car, is a student.
  3. The students are studying because they have a test.
  4. I met the man who had fought me.
  5. She is wearing a shirt which looks nice.
