We know that modern age is the age of hurry and worry, stress and strain, sorrows and sufferings, cares and anxieties, din and noise. It has robbed us of our peace and pleasure, rest and respite, sleep and slumber. Such people as remain busy should adopt a hobby, because a hobby is a pastime for a brain worker to restore his physic equilibrium. The range of hobbies is very large and one can select a hobby according to his taste and temperament; for instance, Sir Winston Churchill pursued painting. Lord Salisbury spent his spare time in a chemical laboratory; Einstein played upon a violin; Bernard Shaw took pleasure in growing vegetables. Common forms of hobbies are stamp-collecting, coin collecting, fishing, photography cooking, cycling, singing, playing, dancing, but my hobby is gardening.

I live in a village. Since my father is a farmer, my hobby costs me nothing. When get tired of my work, I leave it there and go to my garden. There I have prepared some small patches of land. First, I dig the soil with a hoe. Then I loosen it and break the big lumps. After that, I sow the seeds of different vegetables in it and water them. I protect these seeds from birds and insects. After a few days, tiny plants come out of the soil. To enrich the soil, I use fertilizers. When these plants grow big, I spray them to kill virus, pest and insects. I remove herbs and wild plants.

After two months, they bear the fruit of my labour in the form of different, vegetables like tomatoes and potatoes, beans and spinach, peas and pumpkins, carrots and coriander, garlic and onions, radish and hibiscus. I use these vegetables at home as well as sell them to meet my educational expenses.

Beside these vegetables, I also grow various kinds of flowers. My favourite flowers are rose, ivy, lily, water lily, tulip, and lady of the night. The fragrance of these flowers makes the whole atmosphere pleasant.

I love my hobby because it soothes my tired mind and averts my nerve breakdown. This physical work keeps me active and energetic, feverish and enthusiastic. It saves me from mental and physical diseases.

In a nutshell, a brain-worker must scrape some time from his vocation because - hobbies are restoratives and mental tonics, but these hobbies and pastimes should not come in the way of ones duties and responsibilities.
