Modern age is the age of Science. Gone are the days when
every aspect of man's life was dull, dark and drab. He used to live in caves
and worshipped the phenomena of Nature. It was the world of ignorance,
sufferings and hardships. Then science came to relieve him of his sufferings
and ignorance. Now it has given life to the dying, food to the hungry, cloth to
the naked and relief to the fatigued. It has changed night into day, ignorance
into awareness, adversity into prosperity, sorrow into joy and impossible into
possible.
Although science has done a great service to humanity at
each and every step, yet we will discuss its seven benefits in this essay.
Firstly, science has served us in our domestic sphere. It
cooks our food, cools and preserves our edibles, washes and irons our clothes,
runs our heaters, fans room cooler, air-conditioners and refrigerators,
enlightens our houses and even cleans our floors and bathrooms.
Secondly, science has rendered a great service in the field
of transportation and communication. In the past, man used to cover long and
hazardous distances on mules and camels. Now he has cycles and motor cycles,
scooters and rickshaws, cars and coaches, buses and planes. All these vehicles
have made our journey quick, easy and comfortable.
Thirdly, in the near past we had to face many difficulties
to convey our messages to the far off areas. Now for communication we have
invented telephone, wireless, fax and telephone etc. With the help of these
aids, we can send our messages to distant places in a wink. It is all due to
science and scientific inventions,
Fourthly, science has served us in the world of medicine.
Only two hundred years ago, many fatal and gruesome diseases like cholera,
typhoid, tuberculosis, leprosy and malaria were very common. These diseases
used to take a heavy toll of man's life, but science has brought a tremendous
revolution in the field of medicine. Tablets, injections, X-rays, laser-rays,
microscopes and operation theatres have decreased these diseases to a great
extent upon.
Fifthly, in the near past, farmers used to grow different
kinds of crops, but their methods were odd and old. Now science has provided us
with tractors Threshers, harvesters, land-levelers, tube-wells, fertilizers,
pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides. All these things have gone a long way
in growing more and healthier crops than before. With the help of science man
has reached the moon and other planets. Man has invented satellites, rockets
and missiles.
Sixthly, to provide recreation and entertainment to the
tired and the fatigued. Science has provided the facilities of Radio, Television,
Dish-antenna, V.C.R, V.C.P and cinemas. Besides recreation, these media give us
the latest information and knowledge.
Lastly, science has also changed our thinking. In the past,
people were superstitious. They believed in good and bad luck. They were afraid
of black cats and number 13 now science has brought us out of these mysterious
beliefs. Now we believe that there is a sound reason of every happening. We
have become bolder, braver and bolder.
In a word, science has proved a great boon. It is a faithful
servant, expert cook, efficient doctor, sincere engineer, kind teacher and
benign educationist. In this modern age, we cannot do without it.
