Visit to a Zoo Essay:
A zoo is a small world of birds and animals. It is a favourite point of fun and laughter, joy and jollity, mirth and merriment. Woes and worries, sorrows and sufferings, griefs and groans cannot enter this world. It is a beautiful place of recreation and enjoyment. People come here to break dull, dark and drab routine of their daily life.
One day, I got tired of my mental work. I put my books aside
and chalked out a programme with some of my friends to visit the Lahore Zoo. We
went to the zoo. Buying tickets ten rupees each, we entered the zoo. We started
our visit from the left of the entrance.
First of all, we saw the lions and the leopards, the wolves
and the bears, the foxes and the jackals. Some were sitting, some were standing
and some were sleeping. They looked ferocious and terrible. I was lost in the
thoughts how man would have tamed such fierce and dangerous animals. Although
their cages were neat and clean, yet smell could be felt from afar.
Just at a small distance, we saw the flocks of birds
chirping and flying merrily. There were parrots and pigeons, cranes, sparrows and
swallows, eagles and hawks, cocks and cuckoos and nightingales, penguins and
peacocks. All of them looked happy and contended with their confined life.
Cooing of the pigeons, chirping of the sparrows, dancing of the peacocks kept
us standing there for a long time.
No sooner were we looking at the birds than our attention
was diverted to the crowd standing before the cages of the monkeys and baboons,
apes and badgers. Many children and young boys were standing there. Some were
throwing parched gram, some were throwing ground nuts into their cages. Their
glimmering eyes and quick moving mouths delighted us deeply.
Then we visited the cages of dragon, porcupine, dromedary and
rhinoceros. Since these animals were of less interest for us, we had just a
glance at them and moved forward.
On the way, we saw a black elephant. It was walking along
the road. Some children were riding on it. Its driver was sitting in the front.
It was walking slowly and gracefully.
After that, we visited the otter pond. The water of the pond
was very clear. An. otter was playing in it. We threw some coins into the
water. The otter dived into the water and brought them back. We were greatly
amused by the fun.
Next to the otter pond, there were a vast pond of ducks, drakes
and seagulls. Some of them were floating, some were cackling, some were
splashing in the water, some were standing with their necks sunk into their feathers.
We also visited the railings of deer, stags, zebras and
giraffe. They were moving to and fro in the railings. The black and white
strips of the zebras, the long and pointed horns of the stags and the long and
straight neck of the giraffe impressed us much.
Now the sun was descending. We were very tired of our long
walk. We went to the zoo canteen, had cold drinks and came out in a jolly mood.
I found the zoo free from din and noise, sin and evil, pride and prejudice,
envy and jealousy, corruption and terrorism.
